Unique building
The cultural centre in Bergsjön is part of Gothenburg’s commitment to social sustainability and integration in the district.
We at Veidekke were entrusted by the municipality to realise this unique building.
In collaboration
Together with the developer Higab, we started building in 2020 as a turnkey contract in collaboration.
Completed on time and within budget.
Despite challenges in the form of a complex construction, the pandemic and increased material costs, the building was completed on time and within budget.
Smart solutions
Among the compromises made to limit costs were changes in design, smart interior solutions and choice of materials and that some embellishments were removed.
Technically demanding
The technical and structural challenges included:
- Comprehensive wrought frame
- Five meter high cast in place walls
- HDF in joists in different half-planes.
- Free hanging glass bay window
- Few right angles
- Atrium
Close cooperation
The recipe for success was close collaboration with clear communication, quick decisions and great trust from the client.
Many activities
The cultural centre accommodates a dance studio, library, café, studios and an assembly hall. In the first year the building has had more than 116,000 visitors.
I am happy and proud to have been a part of the cultural centre. It is long-awaited and so important for Bergsjön. The secret of the project was that there was only one “we”. We managed to think as a team with the best interests of the project at the forefront.
