In recent years, non-Schengen traffic growth has outpaced Schengen traffic growth at Oslo Airport. Veidekke’s new commission marks the start of the Expansion Non-Schengen East project, which will substantially extend the existing terminal building.

Veidekke will excavate and pour the basement for the terminal, and construct parking positions for aircraft and related infrastructure. Reinforced concrete pads with snow-melting systems will be built for technical installations such as fuelling systems, cable conduits and concrete shafts for ground power, PCA and water. All of the work will be executed in compliance with strict environmental and safety standards.

“This is a challenging commission for us, as we will be working very close to operational areas. However, we have extensive experience of working at Oslo Airport while traffic proceeds as normal. Thorough planning and close cooperation with Avinor will help ensure the success of the project. We are very grateful to Avinor for their continued confidence in us, and look forward to starting work,” says Øivind Larsen, Executive Vice President of Veidekke's Civil Engineering business area.

Building work will start immediately. Most of the work is due to be completed in the course of 2022, while the final completion date is 2024. The commission was specified as an option in the contract concluded by Veidekke and Avinor in 2017, and has been included in Veidekke’s third-quarter order book.
