Veidekke: Tunnel project in Gothenburg

Veidekke has been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) to construct the section Haga - Otterhällan of the Västlänken railway connection under central Gothenburg. The project is a cost-plus contract with an estimated value of SEK 430 million excluding VAT.

"We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract to build the Haga - Otterhällan section. This demonstrates our competitiveness in executing challenging and complex infrastructure projects," says Regional Manager Fredrik Indevall at Veidekke Anläggning Väst.

The contract covers approximately 500 meters between Rosenlundsplatsen and the Harbor Canal and consists of a double-track tunnel and two service tunnels in rock. In this subproject, Västlänken will pass several underground structures such as the Götatunnel, garages, and shelters.

Västlänken is an eight-kilometer railway project for commuter and regional trains, with six kilometers running in a tunnel under central Gothenburg. The project aims to increase capacity and regularity as well as reduce travel time, and three new stations will help to increase the travel base.

Work will start immediately and is expected to be completed in spring 2029. The contract is included in Veidekke's order backlog for the third quarter of 2024.
