“We would like to thank SiA for their good, close cooperation during the interaction phase and that we have now also been awarded the actual construction commision. There is a great need for more student housing in Kristiansand and it is a great pleasure for us to build something that means so much to many people here in the city. Veidekke has built beautiful student housing in solid wood in many towns and cities around the country, which is why we are now pleased to build the same here in Kristiansand," says district manager Atle Monan of Veidekke Bygg Agder.
The project is located at Lund Torv near the city centre and consists of two buildings in solid wood of five and six storeys above ground. The total area is just over 17,000 m2, which will accommodate 400 students in 371 residential units plus commercial areas on the ground floor and a parking facility in the basement. There will also be common functions such as laundry, storage rooms, bicycle parking and caretaker areas, as well as development of the outdoor area between the buildings.
Demolition work will start next week and building is scheduled to start in early October, with occupation in time for the start of studies in August 2025.
