The Norwegian National Rail Administration has awarded Veidekke Entreprenør the contract to upgrade the freight terminal at Holmen in Drammen. This is a construction contract valued at NOK 105 million, excluding VAT.
The majority of imported cars to the country arrive at Holmen freight terminal in Drammen, and in combination with other freight at the terminal, this constitutes significant traffic. At the same time, rail traffic on the line between Drammen and Asker has increased significantly in recent years. This makes it necessary to upgrade the terminal in order for traffic to avoid blocking the main line while also ensuring efficient freight handling.
The contract won by Veidekke includes renovating old tracks, laying approx. 2.6 kilometres of new tracks, building a railway bridge, carrying out foundation and concrete works and electrical work. Work is currently commencing, and will be finished by March 2016.
