To continue building at Vollebekk

OBOS Nye Hjem has awarded Veidekke the contract to build the Humla housing cooperative, which is the fifth building stage with 184 apartments and parking facilities at Vollebekk in eastern Oslo. This is a design and build contract valued at NOK 370 million excluding VAT. The project is planned for Breeam Good classification and the building site will be free of fossil fuels.

The Humla housing cooperative is designed as a block of buildings from five to seven storeys above ground. Roof terraces and roof landscapes are planned with plants on all roofs, as well as common outdoor areas for activities for residents of all ages. Special arrangements will also be made for a flower meadow for the rare short-haired bumblebee (slåttehumle), which has been observed at Vollebekk and has lent the housing cooperative its name.

“We would once again like to extend our thanks to OBOS for the confidence shown in us, and that we have the opportunity to convert Vollebekk into an attractive residential community. With this building stage we will increase the pace to more than 400 apartments in production at Vollebekk, which is a project that we have had the pleasure of developing from the very beginning in close cooperation with OBOS. All parties have interacted well to ensure an optimal and comprehensive building process,” says EVP Hans Olav Sørlie of Veidekke Bygg Norge.

“In this case we have chosen to start building before sales have started. We are finding that interest in apartments in the new city district is increasing in line with completion. The fact that Veidekke has given us the right price for the design and build contract is also an important reason for us choosing to proceed with the project,” says Arne Baumann, EVP of housing development with OBOS.

Vollebekk is in the Bjerke district in eastern Oslo, and was for many years known as an industrial area. This is now changing thanks to a major urban development project in which large sections will be redeveloped from the ground up. When it is complete, the new residential project will comprise more than 800 homes in total, with some commercial premises. The project will be a green and urban district just 13 minutes by Metro from Jernbanetorget, while at the same time close to scenic hiking areas and Lillomarka.

Construction work starts in March, with completion scheduled for the summer of 2022. More information about the project: www.obos.no/vollebekk
