To build Youngskvartalet in Oslo

Veidekke Entreprenør has signed a contract with Youngskvartalet AS for the complete renovation of three old brick buildings and construction of an annex at Youngstorget square in central Oslo. This will be a turnkey contract valued at NOK 250 million, excluding VAT.

The three brick buildings Torggata 13, Youngsgate 7 and Youngsgate 9 date back to the period 1861-1874 and currently form one corner of Youngstorget square. The buildings are to be fully renovated and refurbished using original materials and surfaces. This is a very extensive project, and on completion the buildings will be prime examples of some of Oslo's earliest brick buildings. The buildings will house cafés and restaurants at street level and office premises on the other floors.

In addition, Veidekke is going to build an eight-storey annex to Hammersborggata 12, with a technical basement. The annex will be linked to the existing building at Hammersborgsgata 12 and share common stairwells. On handover, the annex will contain public-oriented activities at street level and office premises on the other floors.

"This is a very exciting and challenging project where we will use the full range of both our building expertise and engineering skills. We are very pleased to be involved in the preservation of old historical brick buildings that are part of our cultural heritage and that will help revitalise the area. We are grateful for the confidence the developer has placed in us and are looking forward to getting started on the construction work," says District Manager Hans Olav Sørlie of Veidekke.

Construction will start in November and will take two years.
