To build a hospital in Stockholm

Veidekke's Swedish subsidiary Arcona has been awarded the contract by Stockholm County Council to build an environmentally certified health-care building of 18,600 m2 at Stockholm South General Hospital - Södersjukhuset. This is a turnkey contract valued at SEK 425 million, excluding VAT.

The project is part of the major remodelling of Södersjukhuset Hospital that will provide new and modern health-care facilities for the Stockholm area's growing and ageing population. The new building will be able to accommodate 159 patients in single rooms, increasing the hospital's annual capacity by some 5,000 beds.

The goal is that the building will be certified according to the Sweden Green Building Council (Miljøbyggnad)'s Gold standard. This sets stringent requirements regarding energy consumption, indoor environment and use of materials. In addition, the design of the premises will focus on patient safety, flexibility and the working environment.

One challenge in this project is coordination of the various deliveries to the building with the hospital's ordinary operations and other construction projects in progress nearby. It is therefore being planned using Arcona's logistics system Construction Supply Logistics (CSL), which ensures that all transport to and from the construction site is coordinated and takes place with high precision.

The planning work is starting in October, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed in June 2018.
