Signed contract for building shell for Munch Museum

Veidekke Entreprenør has entered into a contract with the City of Oslo c/o Kultur og Idrettsbygg Oslo KF to undertake the building shell contract for the new Munch Museum at Bjørvika in Oslo. The value of the contract is NOK 200 million excluding VAT.

The new Munch Museum will be a landmark in Oslo where one will be able to experience Norway's greatest artist of all time. The museum will comprise a 13 storey tower with seven exhibition halls, magazines, preservation facilities and roof terraces, in addition to a three-storey podium with a lobby, shop, café, classroom, library and multi-purpose hall. All art will be stored in the tower's robust concrete structure with strict requirements towards indoor climate.

The City of Oslo has high environmental ambitions for the new Munch museum, supported by Enova SF. The most important measures concern achieving passive house level and a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

"Through the demanding groundwork for the new Munch Museum, we have already established good cooperation with Veidekke, and look forward to proceeding with this in the next important stage for the building. Work with the new Munch Museum in Bjørvika is a construction project that has attracted significant domestic and international attention, so we are pleased to have a good partner on board, who knows Bjørvika, and whom we already know," said CEO of Kultur- og idrettsbygg, Eli Grimsby (KID) when the contract was signed on Friday.

"We are pleased to have won the contract, and are grateful for the confidence placed in us. We have special expertise on concrete structures and environmental projects, so this project is a good match. We know the area well, as since the turn of the century we have had nine construction contracts in Bjørvika worth around NOK 4 billion. We are on schedule with the groundwork for the museum, and now we're looking forward to getting started with the building shell," said Managing Director Dag Andresen of Veidekke Entreprenør when the contract was signed.

Veidekke will ensure that at least two apprentices will be used for the entire contract period in work related to this contract. Work on the building shell will start in October 2016, and completion is scheduled for the end of 2017.
