Building the ALO environmental building in Trondheim

Veidekke has signed a contract with Sluppenvegen 23 (R. Kjeldsberg AS) to construct the ALO office building at Sluppen south in Trondheim. The building will probably be the first in Norway with BREEAM Outstanding (highest level) and WELL Gold double certification. The contract is a design and build contract valued at just over NOK 300 million excluding VAT.

“We are very grateful to have been awarded another assignment for Kjeldsberg. Building with such high environmental ambitions as those in this project is something we particularly appreciate. Together with the client, consultants and subcontractors, we have completed a good development phase and are now looking forward to getting started on the building work after Christmas,” says district manager, Ståle Brovold, of Veidekke Bygg Trøndelag.

The ALO office building will be environmentally certified in accordance with the BREEAM NOR Outstanding standard and be Paris Proof, which results in a low greenhouse gas footprint from the building. The building and its operation will be certified in accordance with the WELL standard and achieve Gold level. The WELL standard is an international certification scheme for healthy buildings. ALO will have a total floor space of 15,000 m2 spread over seven floors. The contract also involves the demolition and clearing of existing buildings and the construction of parking basements totalling around 2,000 m2 and an outdoor space that will safeguard biodiversity and urban ecology.

“We are looking forward to another project with Veidekke and their skilled craftsmen. ALO will have distinctive architecture, but also fit in well with the other buildings at Sluppen. The architecture will help make users of the building proud of their workplace and want to invite customers and other business partners to visit their ‘place’. The building’s atrium will help to ensure that people working in the building have plenty of daylight and promote productivity and a sense of well-being. ALO means fertilising, which is why we think it is a suitable name for the building,” says the managing director of R. Kjeldsberg AS, Ole Petter Bjørseth.

The building work will start in January 2021 and the building is scheduled for completion during the spring of 2023. You can read more about the project on: www.kjeldsberg.no/?eiendomsutvikling=sluppenvegen-23
